About this site
A name checker that says what it does not know.
Why it exists
Naming tools optimise for a satisfying answer. Type a word, receive a wall of green ticks, feel good, register something. The checks that would produce an uncomfortable answer — the trademark in the next class, the registry that will not sell to you, the renewal price that is not fixed — are the ones that get left out, because they are hard and they spoil the moment.
This site runs the checks that can be answered honestly and is explicit about the rest. Where it cannot give you a verdict it says so and points at whoever can, rather than issuing a confident one nobody should rely on.
What it will not do
It will not tell you a name is clear. No automated check can, and a tool that implies otherwise is worse than nothing because you would be entitled to believe it. Trademark conflict turns on similarity within a trade, on names never registered anywhere, and on judgement. None of that is a database query.
It will not guess. When a registry does not answer, the result says unknown rather than defaulting to available. A wrong “taken” costs a name; a wrong “free” costs a rebrand.
How it is built
Domain checks query RDAP, the registries' own protocol, live. Everything else — the name reduction, the dictation checks, the sensitive-word flags — runs in your browser and never leaves it. Reference pages cite the registers behind them so you can confirm any rule at source, which you should.
Who writes it
A small independent team with backgrounds in software and in company formation. We are not lawyers, not trademark attorneys, and hold no affiliation with any registry, registrar or intellectual-property office. Where a question needs a professional, the pages say so rather than improvising.
Corrections
Naming rules change and registry policies move without announcement. If a page here is out of date or wrong, tell us — name the page, say what is wrong, and point at the source. Corrections go onto the page with the date they were made.
