What leaves your browser, what is kept, and for how long. Short, because there is not much of it.

The names you check

When you run a check, the reduced domain label — letters and digits only — is sent to our lookup service so it can query the public domain registries. That service does not record who asked. It keeps a cached copy of the registry's answer for a few hours, so that repeated checks of the same label do not hammer the registries; that cache holds the label and the availability result, and nothing about you.

Everything else the checker does — reducing the name, the dictation checks, the sensitive-word flags, building the register search links — happens in your browser. Those never leave your device.

What is stored in your browser

Your most recent search is kept in this browser's local storage so you are not retyping it, along with your answer to the storage notice. Only pages served from this domain can read it. It never travels to our servers and never reaches anyone else, and answering “Essential only” on the storage notice prevents it being written in the first place. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Server logs

Our hosting and the lookup service keep short-lived operational logs, which include IP addresses, in order to serve pages, apply rate limits and identify abuse. These are not used to build a profile of you and are not combined with anything else.

Advertising

This site carries no advertising today, and therefore sets no advertising cookies. If that changes, this notice will be updated before the advertising appears rather than after, and the funding page will say what changed.

Age

This is a tool for people forming businesses. It is not directed at children, collects nothing that would identify one, and has no reason to.

Your choices

• Decline browser storage using the notice, or clear it at any time in your browser settings.
• Use the site without running a check at all — every reference page works without one.
• Ask us what we hold. The honest answer is almost certainly nothing that identifies you, and we will say so specifically rather than generically.

Changes to this notice

The date at the foot of this page is the date this version took effect. Where something material changes — a measurement tool, an advertising partner, a new thing the lookup service retains — the wording here is updated ahead of the change rather than in its wake, so that the notice never lags the practice it describes.
